Faq's for the Transalp
- Morzine to Nice
So what is the transalp tour?
It is a 5 day tour from Morzine to Nice, using
the"Route Des Grands Alpes" as the basis for our
trip, staying in a different place each night as we make our
way down through France.
What's the riding like?
We use mainly RVTs, but there are also some
single track sections (more especially near Nice dependant
on rider ability!)
Is it all off-road?
No.Some road sections are unavaoidable, especially
in the Val d'Isere area where the terrain is simply too steep
to offer safe alternatives. We do try to keep these to a minimum,
and the maximum road distance in one stretch would be about
35 miles.
How hard is it to ride?
The RVTs are all passable for any level of
ability, but a reasonable standard of riding ability and stamina
is required for this tour - the ability to pick up the pace
if required, although we will never be racing. The distances
we will be covering will ensure a good night's sleep at the
end of each day!
Will you wait for me if I lag behind?
While we will take stops for breathers and
views and photos, it has to be remembered that each day ends
at a different place and that place has, ideally, to be reached
before nightfall - not necessarily easy!
Is there anything
else I should know?
A note of warning: at the end of October last year we had
to miss out two passes/cols and go by road because they were
unpassable due to snow. This could occur any time in October
onwards.
How much will it cost me?
